Average IRC?

Internet Relay Chat is IRC, a text messaging system or real time chat room.

IRC was created one of the first chat programs for the Internet. IRC clients enable connections to IRC servers.

Function

IRC uses a client-server model, so that users can communicate with each other.

Clients connect to a server which then facilitates sending text between clients. Any client that uses the IRC protocol can connect to an IRC server.

Channels

A channel is a group of customers that all any text sent to obtain the string.

Channels can be the same thing as a room chat seen for most users. Channels are created by the server when the first client joined and deleted when the last client leaves.

Private messages

IRC allows to send messages to other users with the same server connected.

In contrast to the channels sent by private message text is visible between two clients.
